A feather for your hat, Chris.

The story from my father tells that my line of the Smiths were of "Royal" decent. My grandfather Issac Smith ended up in Pine Valley Missouri. Near Carter County, and the Curent River. Anyways all the information on the coat of arms, and where it came from made me think abought the birds, I have seen with my own eyes. The story goes they brought with them a Royal line of Pecocks. I tried to procure a specimens from my cousin in Elington MO, back in 1996. But was unsuccessful. Could this link, be useful in your research? Thanks, Paul

Hey Paul,

Thanks for messaging me. I will caution you to not put an entire weight on family lore. My father suggested to me when I was younger that we were of German stock and DNA has proven we are of an English extraction. Honestly, I'm not ready to say heads or tails of what is currently affixed as Isaac M. Smith's parents at the moment. Alice Baker married an Ephraim Smith and Richard Smith and Jane Caruthers only exist in a sole marriage record from what I've found.

In short, what I'm saying is, no one has documented a sufficient amount of research on the line of Isaac M. Smith who married Matilda Elliiott (not Matilda Rose or Ross).

Have you done yDNA testing? If so, you do not match my Smith population.

Have you read my recent blog posting about my research pertaining to the yDNA match to a descendant of Jeremiah Leonidas Smith? I would like your thoughts on that.

I'm not wanting to talk about things like "royalty" and coats of arms if we're going to discuss Isaac M. Smith. So much of this story in North America is so far removed from those days.

Interestingly, I do find that my Smiths have a connection to Glade Hollow Fort in Russell Co, VA. There appears to have been a population that moved between Orange Co, NC and Russell Co, VA (Whitesides) AND Scott Co, TN (the Smidt/Hatfields, family of Hans Jurgen Smidt, not related to me).

If you want to see the Peacock tree, it's in this book: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89066292434&view=1up&seq=15&skin=2021&q1=smithfield

The funny thing is, this Smith group is not the same as your Smith group, nor are they the same as mine.

There have been some books published over the last century or so that have made some smart mistakes and DNA testing is helping to correct them.

Also, if you've been speaking to Walter Smith, he's a very dishonest researcher. I've proven him wrong with his own information and he has made a fuss of the situation because he has been caught. He refuses to stop posting his nonsense from what I see on your WikiTree profile page (Jun 04, 2022).

So yeah, do you have yDNA testing on file anywhere?

Edit: I dug into your tree and the GEDmatch kits associated with your Dooling and Webb relatives. It all groups very nicely with other descendants of Isaac M. Smith.

Christopher,

I am doing yDNA and the other kit for maternal side also. My research is minimal and low quality. I have been thrown into many profiles as manager by Anonymous Smith. Lol, I am glad you are looking into this information as your capacity and scope of reserch, definitely surpasses my ability. I have read your blog and the information you propose there seems to be leading in the correct direction. AS for Walter Smith, it would seem he is of the same school as those who have discouraged myself, and others consistently in the last 15 years. I will be cautious with whom I associate with. Truthfully, I don't want anything from anyone except to know the truth. Thanks for your work, Paul Smith

Christopher, to say it once more, but away from the profile involved, we should please keep long posts out of comments boxes on profiles like Smyth-471. If you want to link to some other place like G2G or a blog then just do it once, and please just keep all remarks short in the comments box. The comments boxes are not meant to be used the way you have been using them on that profile.

The England Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

I've been doing rather detailed research now for about two years. Like looking for obscure but well written analyses and sources. I'm focusing on the family of Maj. Lawrence Smith as I feel his ancestors and descendants tree's are far more tangled online than they should be. I've yDNA and autosomal DNA for comparison. I can trace my lineage back to a David Smith and Elizabeth Meriwether, and feel very certain that Maj. Lawrence Smith and his male relatives would match my yDNA despite what other Maj. Lawrence Smith researchers might say. My autosomal DNA results are a key resource to untangling these lineages and I know of no other male descendants with both yDNA and autosomal DNA for descendants of this population.
