LTC Charity Edna (Adams) Earley was the highest ranking African American woman during WWII. Here LTC Earley was inspecting her command in Britain which is part of an island lying off the western coast of Europe, comprising the main territory of the United Kingdom.

Early was also known for commanding the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion that was an all-black battalion of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) overseas during World War II.
