Biography

Elizabeth (Abbot) Phelps was born on April 29, 1683. She was the daughter of William Abbott and Elizabeth (Gary) Abbot. Elizabeth died at Pomfret in 1762.^[1]

Elizabeth Abbott and Joseph Phelps married in Andover 13 Mar 1710/1 and had three daughters:

  Elizabeth, b. 29 Oct 1712; m. 14 May 1741 to Benoni Barrett in Pomfret, CT; d. 19 Jul 1787 in Brooklyn, Windham, CT

  Hannah, b. 20 May 1715; m. 15 Nov 1744 to Samuel Lawrence in Pomfret, CT; d. 13 Jan 1746/7 in Pomfret, Windham, CT

  Sarah, b. Jun 1717; unmarried but still living when her father wrote his will 29 Sep 1762

  After the births of their children, Joseph and Elizabeth went to Pomfret, CT.  Several of Elizabeth's siblings also relocated there.

  Elizabeth Abbott died 18 Jul 1762 in Pomfret, Windham, CT.  This death is recorded in the Barbour collection. On 29 Sep 1762, Joseph Phelps wrote a will (perhaps a new will to replace the one from before wife Elizabeth died) in which he names his two living daughters (Elizabeth and "younger" daughter Sarah) and also his grandson Joseph Lawrence who is the the son of his daughter Hannah who is deceased.  The executor of the estate is named as his grandson Joseph Barrett who is the oldest child of his daughter Elizabeth.  The will was proved in 1773 which Joseph Barrett serving as the executor.^[4]
