JOHN F. ABBOTT
John F. Abbott, well-known Taunton textile worker, died Tuesday night at the home of his mother, Dr. Sylvina A. Abbott, 72 Broadway, after a two months illness. Mr. Abbott was a graduate of the Taunton schools including high school and of Durfee Textile school at Fall River where he received the highest award given by the school in that line of work. He has always been keenly interested in the North End Rod and Gun club and has been instrumental in the furthering of work in the interests of sportsmen, particularly in the stocking of the North End ponds.
Mr. Abbott was born August 4, 1893. He was the son of Dr. Sylvia A. Abbott and the late Dr. Frederick Wallace Abbott. While attending the Taunton public schools he also attended evening drawing school and during the first year won first prize in free-hand drawing. He graduated with a technical preparation from Taunton High school in June 19, 1913, and in the fall of the same year entered the Bradford Durfee Textile school at Fall River, where, after completing the three-year course in general cotton manufacturing he was awarded the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers medal for his application, thoroughness and independent work. As he worked on the three-year course in general cotton manufacturing, completed a year's course in mill calculations and a two-year course in picking and carding in the night department of the school. He also gave special boxing instruction at the gymnasium of the Fall River Young Men's Christian Association for three years.
After graduating from the textile school, Mr. Abbott entered the mill business at Lewiston and Auburn Maine. For a number of years past he has been in this city.
In addition to his activities as a member of the Rod and Gun Club, Mr. Abbott was a member of the Taunton High School Alumni Association, Taunton Commandery, United Order of the Golden Cross, the Holy Name Society of the Immaculate Conception church and Taunton Lodge of Elks. He was official keeper of the records for the local commandery of the Order of the Golden Cross and at one time was commander. During the war he served the government as a textile inspector.
Mr. Abbott is survived by his mother, Dr. Sylvina A. Abbott; his wife, Mrs. Helen (Fagan) Abbott; three children, John L., Grace and Frederick Wallace Abbott, and one sister, Mrs. Benjamin Tubman of Little Compton, R. I.

Funeral from his late residence, 18 King street, Friday, December 10th, at 8 o'clock. High mass of requiem at the Immaculate Conception Church, at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends are invited.
