Biography

James was born in 1874 in Oxford, Ontario to Israel and Mary Ellen (Holloway) Abell. He married Linda McLeod in the Methodist Church in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1908. They had three children: Hannah, William and Norman. They farmed south of Kandahar, Saskatchewan. His wife Linda died in 1925.

Son Norman was raised by Brady Anderson family and Nels Carlson family. James moved to R.M. of Prairie Rose near Jansen where he worked for another farmer. Later he bought land six miles south of Jansen and farmed there with his son Bill. He lived with daughter Hannah and Ralph Thornton before passing away in May 1966.
