Biography

This profile is part of the Urquhart Name Study.
Helen (Abernethy) Abernethy Lady Urquhart is a member of Abernethy Clan.

The Honourable Helen Abernethy was the daughter of James Abernethy.[1]

Birth Place: Saltoun, West Haddington, Scotland

Temple states her father is Alexander, Lord Abernethy of Saltoun. Other sources, including WikiTree, have Alexander as her brother.[1]

The Hon. Helen Abernethy married Thomas Urquhart.[1]

Thomas and Helen allegedly had twenty-four sons, of whom seven were killed at the Battle of Pinkie on the 10th of September 1547 (English defeat of Scots), and seven daughters.

Children of Thomas Urquhart of Fischerie and Helen Abernethy:

  1. Alexander Urquhart, married Beatrix Innes, he was b. 1507, d. 1564
  2. Thomas Urquhart d. 1609
  3. John who went to Sweden.
  4. David of Invernethy.
  5. James, died Pinkie.
  6. Henry, died Pinkie.
  7. Arthur, died Pinkie.
  8. Son, died Pinkie, father of Isabel Urquhart who married Thomas Meldrum of Iden.
  9. Agnes Urquhart b. c 1516
  10. Elizabeth.
  11. Helen.
  12. Margaret.
  13. Catherine.
  14. Mariobella.
  15. Christian Urquhart, living in 1571 and mentioned in her father's last testament;[2]

Helen Abernethy passed away, probably after the Battle of Pinkie in 1547 and probably after Sir Thomas in 1557.

Research Notes

  • Helen Abernethy and Thomas Urquhart had at least eight known sons and seven daughters, all named, except the son who was the father of Isabell Urquhart who married Thomas Meldrum
  • In an email from Gene Forbes-Hood, dated 14/3/2016, where we were discussing the children of Thomas and Helen, Gene refers to that fact that if, Helen was as young as 15 years old when they married prior to the birth of Alexander in 1498, this would put her birth around 1480-2.
