Rt Reverend Bishop Charles John Abraham, Doctor of Divinity (Cantab), was the son of Captain Thomas Abraham of Sandhurst. He was born in 1814.[1]
Charles married Caroline Palmer, daughter of Sir Charles Palmer of Wanlip. She died in 1877.
Charles was consecrated as Archdeacon of Waitemata, New Zealand (1852-1858); and Bishop of Wellington, New Zealand, in September 1858-1870. He then returned to England where he served as the Prebendary of Lichfield (1872-1876), Rector of Tatenhill (1875-1876); and Canon and Precentor from 1876 and coadjutor bishop for the diocese of Lichfield (1870-1878).[2][1]
In 1881 Charles was widowed and is recorded on the 1881 census as living at The Close, Lichfield. His sister-in-law, Mary Palmer, was also living with him, alongside other servants and retainers.[3] Charles was still said to be living there in 1890.[1] In 1891 he was still living in Lichfield, but was no longer "head of his house", he was a lodger at an establishment in Beaker Street, Lichfield, maintained by the Child family.[4] However, by 1901, Charles was living with his son Charles in Bakewell, Derbyshire.[5]
