George William "Bill" Acks was born in Dahlgren, Illinois, in 1920. He grew up in Mt. Vernon. [1][2][3][4][5] He is the son of George William Acks and Hulda Dulaney. He passed away due to cancer in 2005 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.
Residences
Bill grew up in Mt. Vernon, graduating from high school in 1938.
After serving in the Army Air Corp in World War II, Bill settled down in Mt. Vernon and later moved to Carbondale in 1951.[6] He spent the most of his professional life in the insurance industry where he started as an adjuster and moved into management positions on the claims side of the company.
He moved to Decatur, Illinois in the August 1964 when he transferred to the company headquarters of Federal Mutual Insurance on the north side of Decatur, Illinois on Mound Round.[6] Federal Mutual Insurance was later acquired by Kemper Insurance.
Marriages
Bill first married Marcia Jeanne Brown in 1942 in Christopher, Illinois. [7]
They had one child, Ron Acks. Jeanne died in 1967 in Decatur.
In 1968 Bill married Nancy Lenover. He adopted her son Marty Lenover in 1971, at which time Marty took the Acks surname.
Bill died of cancer in 2005 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was interred at Camp Butler National Cemetery just outside Springfield, Illinois. [8] Five years later, his second wife, Nancy Kay (Lenover) Acks was buried in the same plot in 2010.

Bill is also listed on his first wife's headstone as Bill Acks. His birth year is listed as 1920 with no date of death. He is not buried there, but is instead buried with his second wife as mentioned above.[9]
