Biography

Jessie was born in 1868. He was the son of James Adams and Martha Herbert. He passed away in 1929.

Research notes

When Martha Herbert Adams died on 28 Mar 1877, other homes were needed for her children. Although there is currently little evidence of connection, Martha's father, Jesse R. Herbert, grandfather to her children, was a Methodist minister in Taylor, Iowa until shortly before his death. His children grew up and married there. It is possible the families who took in Martha's children had been members of the church.

In 1880 a Jesse Adams (12, b. MO, parents b. not listed) was servant in the household of John L. Hittle (40, b. OH, farmer, father b. IN, mother b. unknown) and Nancy A. Hittle (35, b. OH) in Polk, IA (Taylor County) along with Daniel Tarr (15, b. IA). Jesse's mother died in 1877 and he may have been sent to work for another family, if this is the Jesse of our profile.

In 1880 a James Adams (40, b. MD, farmer, both parents b. MD) headed a household in Sumner, KS (Osborne County) with wife Martha Adams (32, b. IL, farmer, both parents b. TN), son John H.
