Biography

Josephine was born in 1856. She was the daughter of Samuel Adams and his wife Martha. She passed away in 1923 in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and is buried in St. Jude's Cemetery in Oakville. ^[1] The gravestone indicates that her given names were probably Martha Josephine, although the death record lists the name Josephine first and Josephine was the entry in the 1861 census when she was 5 years old.

Josephine appeared in the 1901 Census of Canada in Oakville, Halton County, Ontario with her husband Jas. R. Johns(t)on, a farmer, and eight children. James (J.R.) Johnson was born in Maryland and had come to Canada in 1860. In this census, there is also a widowed relative named Eliza Adams, age 80 and born in Maryland. (Would this be an aunt by marriage?) ^[2]
