MACKENZIE COUNTY PIONEERS. From that fast-diminishing band of Mackenzie pioneers, death has claimed another, in the person of Mr Thomas Adamson, who recently passed away at Fairlie at the advanced age of 91 years. The deceased arrived in New Zealand, from England, when a young man, and was one of the first to settle down to hard work and sparce fare, in the vicinity of Washdyke, later removing to Albury, where he brought up his family, who, in turn, have carried on the work of settlers in various parts of the country. Locally, the best known is William, at whose residence in Fairlie the deceased passed the declining years of his life. Up till quite recently the late Mr Adamson had a remarkably retentive memory and retained all his faculties. He had a wonderful memory, and was able to read without the aid of glasses. [4]
