Death notice: Observer (Adelaide, SA: 1905 - 1931) Sat 28 Oct 1916 - Mr Adam Adamson died at his residence, 8 Avenel Gardens Road, Medindie, on Saturday afternoon, after a brief illness. He contracted a severe chill last Tuesday. He was the son of the late Mr Adam Adamson, and was born in 1851 in Adelaide. He was educated at Young's Academy and Whinham College, and was a member of the James Brown Trust from its inauguration. For many years he was Honourable Secretary of the Blind School and the Home for Incurables. He has left a widow, two daughters —Mrs. H. P. Barringer (Magill) and Mrs. G. M. Searcy (Bordertown) and one son, Mr. Adam Donald Adamson, of Penola. A correspondent writes: — "The announcement of the lamentably sudden death of Mr. Adam Adamson has caused deep regret among those who were best acquainted with the deceased gentleman, whose retiring disposition did not permit him to receive full celebrity for his many accomplishments. He was one of the finest practical mathematicians in the State, and probably South Australia does not possess a more competent judge of books and manuscripts. He had a splendidly selected library, and for a long time, he specialized in old publications. It is hardly possible to imagine a better read man than Mr Adamson, and his memory was simply marvellous. I have frequently known him to read a page of a book at night and repeat it practically without a mistake next morning. He had also a great facility for the learning of languages—in fact, nothing in the way of literature came amiss to him. Finally, he was a caustic critic and writer, and many a communication full of clever satire has been published anonymously in The Register.[4]
