Biography

This profile is part of the St Helens, Lancashire One Place Study.

Margaret Addison was born in about 1817 in Parr, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Joseph Addison and Margaret Burrows. She may have been christened on 22 Jun 1817 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire, with her parents listed as Joseph Addison (smith of Ashton) and his wife Sarah - obviously the family's abode (Ashton in Makerfield) and the mother's name don't fit, but since there are no other baptisms for children of Joseph and Sarah Addison around that time, the mother's name could be recorded incorrectly. [1]

Margaret's mother died in 1833, and was buried on 8 Nov 1833 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire.

Margaret's father married widow Sarah Wrigley on 25 Dec 1834 at the church of St Thomas the Martyr in Upholland, Lancashire.

Margaret's son William was christened on 21 Oct 1835 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Their address was recorded as Eccleston. [2]

Margaret's stepmother Sarah died in 1840, and was buried on 22 Sep 1840 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire.

By June 6th 1841, Margaret was living with her father in Liverpool road, Eccleston; he was a blacksmith. As well as Margaret, her father and her siblings Jane, Joseph and Sarah, the household included Margaret's 5-year-old son William, and Eleanor and John Wrigley. [3]

By March 30th 1851, Margaret was living with her father in Eccleston; he was an engine smith. [4]

By April 7th 1861, Margaret was living with her father in Liverpool Street, Eccleston; he was a blacksmith. [5]

Margaret's father died in 1864 in St Helens, aged 70.

Hawksley-98 and Addison-2240 do not represent the same person because: Different names, different parents, different places of birth.
