Biography

Lonnie Grady ADKINS was called "Cy" all his life by his father, he was an outdoorsman. He loved horses and wrote poetry. He worked in the Sheriff's Office in Conroe, TX and ran for Sheriff of the the County. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps. At his grave is a bronze plaque which reads "Texas PHM1 USN March 29, 1912 - Sept 30, 1955". Cy moved to Longview, TX after the war where he served as a Deputy Sheriff of Gregg Co., TX. He loved people but marriage was not successful for him. Ernestine Ray was his wife when he died. He died in a Veteran's hospital at McKinney, Collin Co., TX after a 3 year bout with lung cancer. Death Claims Dallasites' Kin
L. C. "Cy" ADKINS of Longview, who is survived by four Dallasites, was to be buried at 4 p.m. Saturday in Milford, his birthplace, after 2:30 p.m. services in Lamar & Smith Chapel.
Mr. ADKINS, 43, died in a McKinney Hospital Friday after a long illness. He attended Conroe High School and North Texas State College before serving the Marine Medical Corps in World War II.
He had lived in Longview since the war, where he was a special investigator in the district attorney's office. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church there.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ernestine ADKINS of Longview; mother, Mrs. W. E. ADKINS of Dallas; sisters Mrs. B. G. HILL and Mrs. C. D. HARRISON, both of Dallas; brothers W. J. of Laredo, H. J. of York, PA; Sam of Austin, Earl W. of Irving and L. C. ADKINS of Dallas.
