Biography

Surilda [Cindrella] Adkins was born on April 27th, 1859 to Jackson Adkins and America (Adkins) Adkins.

On February 18th, 1878 she married John Kirk Napier. ^[1] They had one child, Maryland.

In the book "The Adkins Family of Wayne County, West Virginia, Also Cabell, Lincoln and Boone," the author mentions:

Surrilda b ca 1855; d ca 1878; d/o Jackson and America (Adkins); m John Kirk Napier b 1859; s/o William and Nancy Margaret (Queen) and who m(2) Mary Jane Adams with issue; John and Surrilda m 5 Sept. 1976.

The marriage date is an obvious mistake in the year but the date is shown two different ways in the records. It is recorded as 5 Sept 1876 ^[3] and also as 18 Feb 1878. ^[1] Could it be possible that they married, divorced and married again? The records somewhat agree with this as they are both single and 16 years old in the 1876 record but only John is shown as divorced in the 1878 record. The parents shown are the same in both records so we are dealing with the same couple. The later marriage date is used here because it is the most recent. WikiTree does not yet have a way to record two marriage dates with the same couple.

The book "The Adkins Family of Wayne County, West Virginia, Also Cabell, Lincoln and Boone," ^[2] also shows Surilda as a sister to herself by calling her "Cinderella". The birth dates of each are shown differently, Surilda as about 1855 and Cinderella as 27 Apr 1859. This researcher believes the two are not sisters but the same person.

Cinderella b WC 27 Apr.1859/60; d/o Jackson 8, America (Adkins); d 1918; m 10 June,1880 John L. Adkins (John's obituary listed his name as John Crockett Adkins); b May,1858/60; d Logan Co. 23/9 Dec.1926; s/o Parker & Lucinda; both were bur in the family Cem on Lick Creek which was relocated to the East Lynn Community Memorial Gardens.

Surilda did not pass away about 1878, she and John Napier divorced. Surilda married, as her second husband [her third marriage], to John L. Adkins on June 10th, 1880. ^[4] Please note: this marriage record shows that Surilda is divorced and that John Adkins is single.

Surilda passed away about 1918. ^[7]
