Charles was born in 1833. He is the son of Stephen Adsit and Polly Smiley. He married Janette, or Janet, Wooduff. After moving to Minnesota in 1856, he was one of the early settlers of Steele County, homesteading a government claim. He was the first postmaster of Aurora township, holding office for 15 years. In 1896 he moved to Owatonna. His sons had established themselves in the Adsit block, where they were running a shoe business. He died on Oct 5, 1902, while living with his son William. Lung problems and heart failure were the cause of death.
