The parentage of Lamia Aelianus is not confirmed in historical sources, though theories have been proposed. The most prominent of these is the theory that Lamia Aelianus may be the son of Empress Domitia Longina, wife of Domitian, by her first husband Lucius Aelius Lamia Plautius Aelianus, and brother of the undocumented Plautia,[1] whose own existence is uncontested and was first suggested as a solution to contradictory statements concerning the familial relationships of the Antonine dynasty, and was so named following the nomenclature of her descendants.
