Biography

Charles William (known as Tip [1]) was the son of Richard George Alcock (1854-1918), a carpenter, and Mary Robinson (Lawson) Alcock (1854-1940) was baptised at the church of Our Lady and St Cuthbert, Clumber, Nottinghamshire, on 22nd May 1887 [2].

In 1891 Charles (3) was living with his father Richard 37, a Forman Joiner, and mother Mary N (37 born Faindon), brother Thomas G (7, a scholar) and sister Mary M (8, a scholar) and his widowed grandmother Elizabeth Lawson (born Claypole Linclnshire, aged 73) were living at Hardwick, Clumber [3].

In 1901 Charles W was 13, a Joiner's apprentice living with his parents and siblings Mary M (18, a dressmaker), and Richard (5) Thomas was 17 and a joiner, at Hardwick, Clumber, where all the children had been born[4].

In 1911 Charles (aged 23, a joiner) was living with his parents and brother Richard (aged 15, described as a "student for clerk service") at the Post Office, Hardwick, Clumber [5].

Charles married Margaret Edith Martin at the church of Our Lady and St Cuthbert, Clumber, on 23rd April 1919. His brother Charles William Alcock (abt.1878-abt.1916) was best man (both fathers were dead [6].

Margaret died in 1933 aged 48 in the September quarter of 1993. The death was registered in the Worksop district [7].

Charles remarried, to Ethel J Buxton in the September quarter of 1935 in the Burton (upon Trent) registration district [8].

In 1939 Charles, a carpenter (born 9 April 1887) and Ethel J Alcock (born 19 December 1896) were living at Hardwick Terrace with two children (redacted) presumably one was Margaret (Alcock) Lovegrove (1920-abt.2000)[9].

Charles died on 4th December 1960 [10].
