Robert was murdered June 7, 1989.

The Upshur County Sheriff's Dept secured a warrant June 8 for a suspect in the June 7 stabbing death of a Walkersville man.

The name was not released of the suspect.

Robert M. Alderman of Walkersville was discovered by a passing motorist about 8 pm, Wednesday, June 7 lying bleeding in the road on Secondary Route 30, between Big Bend Church and Ten Mile. Police believe the suspect fled the scene in the victim's car.

Alderman was still alive when the motorist found him. He had suffered multiple stab wounds and was bleeding profusely. Alderman died before Upshur County deputies arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor who stood in for the county coroner. An autopsy performed June 8 at WV University in Morgantown confirmed that Alderman died from multiple stab wounds.

Police searched for Alderman's car, a 1979 Ford thunderbird with light orange vinyl top over a burnt orange metallic body. The car bears a Shriner plate on the left front bumper and a Shriner decal on the rear. The vehicle was entered into NCIC about 3 a.m. June 8, the sheriff said.

2 deputies, sheriff, Sergeant and a Trooper searched the area on foot and in vehicles Wednesday night.

Alderman reportedly left his Walkersville home about 4 p.m., June 7 to come to Buckhannon. He was seen in Buckhannon late that afternoon. Robbery has been ruled out as a motive in the stabbing, the Sherriff said.

No further details is known.

Robert was the son of Lee and Blanche Samples Alderman. He was survived by his wife.

Services were held Monday, June 12, 1989 at 2 p.m. at Tomblyn Brothers Funeral Home, French Creek Officiating the service was Rev. Virgil Hornbeck.
