Biography
Mary was born about 1833 in Massachusetts.
She as the daughter of Charlotte and Charles Allen, and the sister of Civil War widow Ellen Gooding whose husband fought and died with the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United State to enlist men of color during that war.
