OBITUARY
Mrs. Abigail Lewis wife of Dr. H. N. Lewis, died June 5, 1883. Mrs. Lewis has been in faillng [sic] health for some months. She was at first a sufferer from general nervous prostration and at the last from paralysis. She was born at Framingham, Mass., in 1820. In May 1842 she was married to Dr. H. N. Lewis at Jacksonville, Ill., by Prof. Sturevant. About five years after this they moved to Quincy, where they have since lived. Both husband and wife were baptized about 1848, and were members of the Fisst[sic] Baptist church in this city until the organization of the Vermont Street Baptist church in 1857. They were among the consistent members of that church and in her life as a Christian[sic] woman Mrs. Lewis was faithful unto death. Five children have died before their mother and four survive her. A quiet, unassuming woman; a true wife; a faithful, loving mother; a consistent Christian[sic]; such an one passed away when Mrs. Lewis died. The funeral will take place at the residence, 422 York street, this afternoon at 3 o'clock, (city time).
