Amelia Mary "Millie" Allen was born on the 14th April 1898, in Essendon, Victoria, Australia, the eldest child of Alfred Weaver Allen and Bridget Mary Dunn.[1]
After becoming engaged in February 1924 ,[2] she and Dr Alan Robert Tate (second
son of Frank Tate, Director of Education, and Ada Victoria née Hodgkiss) were married on the 30th September 1925, in St Peter's Church, Brighton Beach, with the Rev. Eva officiating.[3] Due to illness, her father was unable to attend (he was to die five days later), so her mother escorted her down the aisle. Millie's attendants were her sisters: Myrtle, and Nellie, and the groom's attendants were: Ted Hasker, as best man, and Dr James Ainslee as groomsman.
The wedding had quite the write-up in the local news, with full descriptions of the frocks worn, the flowers, the reception, and the bride's going away outfit. The honeymoon was spent on a short motor tour.[4]
Millie and Alan were to have two known children, both sons: Geoffrey Alan (1926–2005), and Robert Franklin (1933–2018).
Amelia Mary "Millie" Tate née Allen passed away on the 2nd December 1991, in Moonee Ponds, Victoria, Australia, aged 93 years.[5]
