Research Notes

Charles River County was one of the original counties, created in 1634. It was renamed York County in 1642.^[2] There was no location "Charles, York", so "Charles" was removed from the birth and death place datafields.

Her daughter's profile has her birth in "Charles Parish, York County", but Charles Parish did not exist when she was born (1679, according to her profile).^[3] It served York County from about 1692 to after 1785. Charles River Parish served Charles River County until the name of both the County and the Parish was changed to York in 1642. There was also a Charles City Parish, formed in 1613, which was one of the "original shires & parishes".^[4] Charles River County and Charles City County are not adjacent.^[2]
