Andrew was born ca. 1839, the son of John R. Allison and Rebecca Jane James. He enlisted in July 1861, serving in Company A of the 61st Regiment, PA Volunteers in Duty in the Defenses of Washington, D. C. He died of typhoid fever on February 18, 1862. They were there assisting to build Ft. Lyons, located on the Potomac south of Arlington to protect the American Capital.
Note: An original, handwritten "Register of Deaths of Volunteers" (available online at Ancestry) reports that he died on February 18, 1862. A Veterans Burial Card, prepared many years after his death, is also available for him (online at Ancestry), reporting a death date of February 11, 1862. It is assumed that the former, original record is correct.
