Biography

Elizabeth R Alvis was born on 1 September 1856 in Marshall County, Mississippi, the daughter of Benjamin Crenshaw Alvis and Winnifred C (Willis) Alvis).

She married Erasmus Jones on 4 January 1877 in Marshall County.^[1]

In 1880 Elizabeth and Erasmus were living near Bethlehem, Marshall County, with two young daughters.^[2]

In 1900 Elizabeth and Erasmus were living in Potts Camp, Marshall County, with eight children:^[3]

3. Bernard Jones - born February 1881
4. Dixie Jones - born October 1882
5. Myrtle Jones - born November 1884
6. Clifton Jones - born September 1887

Erasmus died in 1906 and in the 1910 census, Elizabeth was head of household in Potts Camp. Three of her children were living with her: Dixie, Myrtle, and Honnoll B. The census notes that she had given birth to eight children, and all eight were still living. She owned her home.^[4]

Elizabeth died on 27 Feb 1926, at age 69, and was buried at Potts Camp Cemetery.^[5][6]
