Biography

Joseph Alward was born in Upper Canada in 1839. He was a sailor. He married Margaret Switzer. She died before 1900.

After being an invalid at the Delta county alms house for several months, Joseph Alward, familiarly known as “(’apt. Joe” and a resident of this city for many years, passed away yesterday morning. The body was removed to the undertaking rooms of J. A. Allo and definite arrangements for the funeral will be made today. Throughout his residence hero “Capt. Joe" was secretive concerning his birthplace and relatives. Where he was born or whether he Is survived by any relatives will probably never be known. For many years he was a familiar figure about the streets of the city.^[1]
