Sometime before 14 Dec 1859 when her first child (William Henkel Henkel-300) was born she married Henry Henkel Henkel-301. They had 2 more children Henry Jr. Henkel-319 1861-1915 buried at the Lutheran Cemetery (I don’t believe he married) and Eliza Henkel Henkel-320 born about 1866 and died 27 October 1872 about age 6, buried at the Lutheran Cemetery. According to 1900 Census she had 5 children, but only 2 living.
Meanwhile Sophie’s sister Elisa (1844-1937) married in1868 in New York to George Hildebrand Hildebrand-783 (1839-1918) and they had 1 child, Mary. Interestingly both Elisa and George are buried at the Lutheran Cemetery.
Henry Henkel (father of William Henkel Henkel-300) died 1 Sept 1874 buried at the Lutheran Cemetery. According to family tradition and William Henkel’s obit he went to work to support his widowed mother at age 9 but perhaps his age was more like 14 or 15.
5 January 1878 Sophie married Konrad Kruck Kruck-14 who died 21 Nov.1882.[5]
She died December 1, 1911 [6]

She was born 21 Feb 1837 in Griedel, Friedberg, Germany. The daughter of Conrad Amberger and Elizabeth (Wetz) Amberger. They had 5 children but only Sophie and her sister Katharina lived to be older than 3. Her mother died 6 October 1847 when Sophie was 10. Her father remarried 4 January 1849 to Elizabeth Sein. In July 1851 Conrad, his wife and 1 infant immigrated to New York and settled in New Jersey. It’s unknown why he left his 2 living daughters behind.
13 February 1854 Sophie (15) and her sister Katharina (9) immigrated to New York on The Vespa. (pictured) I have no knowledge of who accompanied them and I do not believe they went to New Jersey to be with their father. Sophie is listed on the Embarkation form as a domestic.
Sometime before 14 Dec 1859 when her first child (William Henkel) was born she married Henry Henkel (1833-1874). Henry is buried at the Lutheran Cemetery. They had at least 2 more children Henry Jr. (1861-1915) buried at the Lutheran Cemetery (he never married) and Eliza Henkel born about 1866 and died 27 October 1872 about age 6, buried at the Lutheran Cemetery. According to the 1900 Census Sophie had 5 children with 2 living.
5 January 1878 Sophie married Conrad Krick who died 21 Nov.1882.
Meanwhile, Sophie’s sister Elisa (1844-1937) married in 1868 in New York to George Hildebrand (1839-1918) and they had 1 child, Mary. Interestingly both Elisa and George are buried at the Lutheran Cemetery.
My Grandma Ethel Henkel Case wrote a memory of her childhood and has many good memories of Grandma Krick especially the Charlotte Rouse (a type of dessert) Sophie made and visits to Grandma Krick’s sister. I haven’t been able to find her death date but know it’s after 1910 as we have the census record of her and her son Henry living together that year. I rechecked my mom’s records and saw 1912 by Sophie’s name, so I assume that is when she died.
