Biography

Cyril Frederick aka "Cy" Amos was born July 14, 1918 in Newton, Catawba, North Carolina to parents Fred Amos and Laura Sadie Hunt .^[1]

Cyril Frederick married Lenna Ophelia Faw. ^[2]

Although I haven't been able to access any free versions of his military service records I was able to ascertain he was discharged from service September 12, 1945 out of Beaufort, South Carolina. ^[3]

Cyril passed away May 21, 1993 in Norfolk City, Norfolk, Virginia and he was buried shortly after in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. ^[4]

Obituary

The following Obituary was found on page B2 of The Virginian Pilot dated from May 23, 1993.

Cyril F. "Cy" Amos, Sr., 74, a retired police chief, died May 21, 1993, in a hospital.

Mr. Amos was born in Durham, N.C. He retired from Little Creek Amphibious Base Police and was a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach and Toastmasters International. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lenna F. Amos; three sons, Cyril F. Amos, Jr., Gerald L. Amos and Richard F. Amos, all of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Beatrice Brownell of Washington, D.C., and Fredda Brown of Newton, N.C.; a brother, Robert W. Amos of Newton, N.C.; three granddaughters; six grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Bayside Presbyterian Church by Dr. Richard Keever. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at 1129 Revere Point Road, Virginia Beach, after services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bayside Presbyterian Church or the Kempsville Rescue Squad.
