Anna came to America in 1888 after Olaf died. She came with her mother, who anglesized her name to Thompson settling in Minneapolis, where her sister lived. Her sister married John Phaneuf, and was known as "Auntie Phaneuf".

Her mother's sister was Emma Phaneuf, b. 1846 Norway, d. 29 Feb 1932 Minneapolis. She immigrated in about 1868. Emma Phaneuf's father and mother listed in her death record were: John Andersen and Mary Olson.
