Vietnam War US Marines PFC, C CO, 1ST BN, 7TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV, III MAF enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 23, 1967 in Louisville KY. PFC Andrew arrived in Vietnam on February 1, 1968 where he was assigned for duty with Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On February 13, while establishing a squad ambush site in the vicinity of the Dong Bich village complex in Hieu Duc District of Quang Nam Province a wire was tripped detonating an AP (Anti-Personnel) mine believed to have been an M26AI grenade resulting in the death of LCpl Carey and wounding PFC Andrew.
Evacuated to the NSA Station Hospital in Da Nang, PFC Andrew died on February 18, 1968 as a result of the fragmentation wounds he has sustained from the hostile device.
