Biography
Grandma Phil was married and had three children before the start of the Civil War. Her husband, Otis T. Cash, enlisted in the 19th Virginia Infantry, Co. I, leaving her home with the children. While he was never listed as AWOL but served throughout the war, Phil gave birth to two more children during the war.
Her granddaughter, Salonia Wayne Campbell Wallen, states in her "Josephine - Precious Mother" book, "Stories have been related about Grandma Phil's bravery. She thought nothing of riding her horse from her daughter's house in the hollow to her own home several miles south in another hollow, even at night."
