Orman M was born 1839 March twenty-fourth in Green Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, to Henry Applegate of New Jersey and Margaret Applegate of Pennsylvania. His siblings are James, Charles, Israel, Joseph, and Ella I (Bird).


Orman served as a private in Company G of the 2nd Regiment of Missouri Cavalry during the War of the Rebellion [1] Orman enlisted 1864 September third and mustered in the ninth at Saint Louis, Missouri. He mustered out 1865 June fifteenth.

Orman was married 1863 May fourteenth in Hamilton County, Ohio, to Mary Ann Boffing [2]. Their children are Flora B, Sherman, [3] Oliver H, [4] Herbert [5] Davis [6], Sarah, and Viola Jeannetta (Janson) [7].
