Jane Appleton was born on 22 Jun 1840 in St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John Appleton and Mary Ann (Ridgway) Appleton. ^[1]

By June 6th 1841, they were living in Naylor Street, Windle; Jane was 11 months old. Her elder sister Mary was with her paternal grandparents on the night of the census. ^[2]

In 1850, they were living in Dover, Racine, Wisconsin. In the adjacent household was Alice (Appleton) White and family; she was probably John's sister. ^[3]

Jane married Joseph H Nearman.

Jane died on 9 Mar 1917 in Escanaba, Michigan, of apoplexy, aged 76 years 8 months and 17 days. ^[4]
