Biography

Coquilla was born in 1865. She was the daughter of Richard Henry Applewhite. She passed away in 1907.

Coquilla Cry "Cora" Applewhite was the daughter of Richard Henry Applewhite and Eliza Jane Lanier. She married Benjamin Moore Clement 6 January 1884 in Dyer County TN. They had met as students of the Lane Academy. Cora and Ben had 9 of their children live to adulthood and have their own families. Three children, believed to be two unnamed daughters and a son, Johnnie Tivis, died in infancy. Her husband Ben was buried in potters field in the Halls cemetery. Her youngest son, missing from the children's list was Albert Bittick Clement, Sr., born 21 Dec 1903 in Lauderdale Co. TN [TN delayed birth certificate]; died 27 Sep 1989 in Oklahoma City, OK [State of Oklahoma death certificate].

Coquilla was my paternal grandmother. My father's only memory of her was her funeral. He was about 4 years old. From family recollection, she was 5 feet tall and 200 pounds weighed in a cotton scale. I have a copy of the only known photograph of her. I resemble her.
