Biography

Warren Ardis was born in Dixon, Montana in 1924. He was the son of Ray Ardis and Mabel Telling. He married Marie Miles in 1944.

DIXON - Warren Monroe Ardis, 80, of Dixon, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Community Medical Center in Missoula.

He was born on May 15, 1924, at the family place on Revais Creek, the son of Ray and Mabel (Telling) Ardis. Warren grew up and attended school in the Dixon area.

His passion for the Western lifestyle began as a young man. Warren headed to the Bitterroot Valley, where he took up work as a hired hand with several local ranches. After spending some time ranching in Wisdom, he made his way to Oregon and worked in the shipyards during World War II. Warren eventually made his way back home to the Dixon area and became employed in the sawmill.

He married a young lady with whom he'd grown up as a young fellow. That special gal was Marie Miles and they wed on July 17, 1943, in Butte. To this union were born three sons.

Warren continued as a saw operator for various sawmills in Sanders County. They spent 14 years in Plains before moving to their current home at Magpie Creek in 1969. In 1972 Warren became disabled following a sawmill accident and soon after retired.

Those who knew Warren will always remember his love for the Western life. He loved his horses, especially when it came to riding. He also loved to listen to his cassettes of western music and enjoyed watching movies on the Western channel. Although this cowboy has ridden into the sunset, he will be in the hearts of those he loved forever.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Pearl and Joyce, son John, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marie; two sons, Roy (his wife Anna) of Plains and Robert (his wife Laurel) of Kalispell; two brothers, Jim (his wife Judy) Ashcroft and John Ashcroft, all of Newport, Ore.; a sister, Clara (her husband Vern) of Haugan; six grandchildren, Daryl, Ariel, Wesly, David, Crystal and Linda; two great-grandchildren, Mark and Shyanne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 25, at the Bunch-Toews Chapel in Plains with a rosary service. Funeral services will take place Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Plains followed by burial at Plains Cemetery. Bunch-Toews Chapel of Plains is in charge of the arrangements.[1]
