Biography

Johanna was born in 1998 in Illinois, her parents were Bernardus Arends and Margaret VanDyke. Joann never married. In 1950, she was living in Detroit, Michigan working as a file clerk for the Railway Express Agency, she had previously worked at Aronsson Printing in Detroit as a proof reader. She moved in the 50’s to Cincinnati, Ohio with her co-worker and friend Alta Marshall. She travelled frequently, including to Cuba in the 1940’s.^[1]

Joann had lifelong problems with her hearing, even trying acupuncture treatments, eventually becoming deaf in the early 80’s. She moved to a care facility near her family in Kent County, Michigan where she lived until her death in 1986. She is buried at Saint Catherines Cemetery, Ravenna, Muskegon County, Michigan ^[2]^[3]^[4]
