Notes

NI6Grammar adn middle school - St. Joseph's School
The adventure started in first grade. She along with her sisters left school at lunch time and hurried to their home on Meadow St. and grabbed the famous or infamous lunch pail. The pail consisted of three sections. The bottom sectionheld tea. They were Irish don't you know. The middle section held the main course, and the top section held the dessert. Little legs then hurried to the mill to deliver the lunch. If one should stumble and fall, the contents would spill and either be lost or be scooped up and put back into the pail. Either way the evening wasn't a pleasant one for the child who lost the lunch. After depositing the pail, it was back to Meadow St. to scoff down lunch and scoot back to school all done at lightning speed. Today this would be considered child abuse, but during the 1920's and 30's the practice was quite common. Mammy died when Anna was 12, and the family moved out and took up “housekeeping”.
