Biography

Janet was born about 1827. She was aged 14 in 1841, living with her parents, Thomas and Ann, and siblings at North Berwick, East Lothian. [1]

She passed away in 1900.

The pic may be Jane Goodall her mother in law!

1858: BIRTH OF CHILD: Thomas. In Ratho, Scotland

1860 : BIRTH OF CHILD: Ann. In Ratho, Scotland.

EMIGRATION TO NEW ZEALAND with Husband and kids.

The “FLYING MIST” 1862, Ship The ship sailed from Glasgow on June 5, 1862, for Bluff, with 20 passengers, including 13 shepherds, and 1,741 sheep, of which about 700 died in the voyage, most of them while the ship was in the tropics. The Flying Mist arrived at Bluff on the afternoon of August 25.

1900: BURIAL : Oamaru Cemetery, Oamaru, New Zealand.

Highly likely that the North Otago village of Arundel is named for her :)

(Copied from The Shepherd's Way) DEATH RIDDELL - At Herbert, on the 13th May, at her son-in-laws, John J Johnston's residence, Herbert, Janet, relict of the late Andrew Riddell, in her 74th year. The funeral will leave the residence on Wednesday, the 16th, at 11 a.m. for the Oamaru Cemetery, arriving at 2 p.m. Friends are kindly invited to attend. R HAYES, Undertaker.

Arundel-228 and Arundel-206 appear to represent the same person because: These seem to be the same person. I can't find a birth source, but 1827 is consistent with the 1841 census record. Please initiate a discussion if you are concerned that these aren't duplicates. Thanks so much. Gillian
