Wedding Article [3]
WEDDINGS.
Bassett—Ashburn.
A very pretty wedding was celebrated on Thursday 22nd inst. (writes our Roma correspondent) at the residence of the manager of the State Farm, Roma (Mr. R. E. Soutter), and Mrs. Soutter, when Mr. Samuel Bassett (son of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Bassett, of Roma Villa (Roma) was married to Miss Dorothy Ashburn (fifth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ashburn, of Brisbane). The ceremony was performed on the lawn, the Rev. A. E. Henry officiating. Only the immediate relatives of the bride and bridegroom were present. The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr. Roy Ashburn), wore a handsome gown of ivory crepe de Chine, over glace silk the yoke composed of finely tucked chiffon, and trimmed with rich applique and chiffon roses; the skirt was fully trained, and a coronet of orange blossomes and tulle veil completed the handsome toilette. The bride was attended by her niece, little Miss Gwenneth Soutter, who wore a white embroidered frock finished with pale blue ribbons. Mr. F. Roberts (Bank of Australasia) acted as best man. The wedding tea was served on the veranda, the tables were prettily decorated with sunflowers and on the centre one was a handsome three tier wedding cake the gift of Mrs. May, Warwick (sister of the bride). Mr. and Mrs. Bassett left by the evening train enroute to Brisbane and Tweed Heads, where the honeymoon is being spent. Mrs. Bassett wore a travelling costume of cornflour blue poplin, with black trimming, and a large black San Toy hat, lined with black satin, and arranged with large bows of blue ribbon. The presents were num erous and handsome.

She passed away in 1984 [4] and is buried with her husband in Roma General Cemetery, Roma, Queensland, Australia. [5]
