James was born in 1861. He was the son of Thomas Askew and Reubena Rankin. He married Mary Alice Eastham in Devonport in 1887 and later Laura Louise Hall (who died on 2 January 1953). He passed away in 1952.[1] He was buried at Wakapuaka, Nelson on 29 June 1952. [2]
