Ralph Assheton, 1st Baron Clitheroe was born on 24 February 1901. He was the son of Sir Ralph Cockayne Assheton, 1st Bt. and Mildred Estelle Sybella Master.^[1]

Marriage

He married Hon. Sylvia Benita Frances Hotham, daughter of Frederick William Hotham, 6th Baron Hotham of South Dalton and Eliza Benita Sanders, on 24 January 1924.^[2] They had 4 children:

He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1923 with a Master of Arts (M.A.) He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1925 entitled to practice as a barrister.
