Ralph Assheton, 1st Baron Clitheroe was born on 24 February 1901. He was the son of Sir Ralph Cockayne Assheton, 1st Bt. and Mildred Estelle Sybella Master.[1]

He married Hon. Sylvia Benita Frances Hotham, daughter of Frederick William Hotham, 6th Baron Hotham of South Dalton and Eliza Benita Sanders, on 24 January 1924.[2]
