Allen was married to Helen Elmore Ates. They celebrated their 66th anniversary on November 7, 2019 before she went to heaven later that month.

Above all, Allen loved Jesus. He always said, “I’m having a little talk with Jesus” He trusted God as his heavenly Father, Jesus as his Savior, and depended upon the Holy Spirit as his Guide. Second to the Lord, he loved his family. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Jackson Flowers, Mia Flowers, Hunter Broadway, Ava Broadway, Bella Lopez, Gracie Borders, Chloe Borders, and Raeleigh Borders.

Allen served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and was active in the Natchitoches Baptist Association. When he was not working at Valley Electric, Allen was working with cattle; he was a true cattleman. He also enjoyed being a Mason; he was a member of the Phoenix No. 38 F. & A. M.
