John was born about 1716 in East Haven, New Haven, Connecticut. He was born to John Augur and Elizabeth Bradley.

He married Rachel Barnes on January 5, 1744 in Branford, New Haven, Connecticut. Together they had six children.

He died on March 31, 1804 in New Haven, Connecticut.
