Biography

Pvt Henry Ausburn served in the United States Civil War.

Henry was born in 1846. He passed away in 1892.

Henry joined the Union Army at Cumberland Gap in Aug 1862. He gave his occupation as Musician.

During a fight with Lt. J W Bell, Henry stabbed him several times. Henry was charged with "Assault with intent to kill". Although he pleaded not guilty, he was found guilty. He was sentenced to be shot, but the sentence was remitted. He was dishonarably discharged and sent to military prison in Nashville for 5 years.

After 6 months of a letter writing campaign by himself and friends, he was released in December 1865.

He applied for a pension, but it was refused because he was dishonorably discharged.
