Biography

Manie was born in Decaturville, Tennessee, on 27 February 1904.^[1] He was the son of Cole Austin and Mary Jane Newman.^[2] His family moved to Oklahoma when he was a small child. Manie graduated from Wilson High School and attended college in Arkansas.^[3] He worked as a bookkeeper for a lumber yard.^[3] On 28 September 1928 he married Irene Cummins in Cornish, Oklahoma.^[4] The couple had a daughter, Mary Ann, and a son, Robert.^[5] Manie died on 16 October 1946, two days after being shot by Robert in a hunting accident.^[6][3] He is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma.^[7]
