Jemima Austin/Asten, daughter of Francis Austin and Isabel Bland, was baptized with her sister, Keziah, January 24, 1641, at Hampton, New Hampshire. They may have been twins.[1]
"Francis Austin, his lot at Dedham had passed to Francis Chickering bef. 1640. Land grants in Hampton, to himself 30 June 1640, to his widow 13 July 1642. She was Isabel Bland, dau. of Mr. John and Isabel Smith Bland of Martha's Vinyard. He quickly d. and she m. Thomas Leavitt. Known ch: Isabel, b.c. 1633, m. Philip Towle; Jemima, bp. with Keziah, m. John Knowles. Keziah, bp. 24 Jan. 1641, called Tucker in wills of step-father and mother, living at a distance, poss. mother of Samuel of Chatham." NOTE - birth and marriage date were estimated from the date of birth of first child Isabel b. 1633.[2]
John Knowles, mariner, married July 10, 1660, Jemima, daughter of Francis and Isabella (Bland) Asten, of Hampton.[1]
Jemima and John were married 10th of the 5th mo, 1660 (indicates a Quaker marriage.)[3]

Jemima’s stepfather, Thomas Leavitt, was one of the first settlers of Exeter, New Hampshire and a signer of John Wheelwright of Exeter’s Combination agreement for good government in 1639. He removed to Hampton, New Hampshire and, as early as 1644, married Isabella (Bland) Asten, daughter of John Bland (alias Smith) and Isabella Drake of Colchester, Essex, England, and widow of Francis Asten, who had died a year or two before. They lived on the Asten homestead (later the residence of John C. Marston).[4]
Isabella brought to the marriage three children:[1]

Jemima Asten, bapt. January 24, 1641; m. John Knowles
Keziah Asten, also bapt. January 24, 1641; m. ______? Tucker
