The 1790 U.S. Federal Census finds Elijah Ottery (Autry) in Moore County, North Carolina.[5] The 1800 census shows that Elijah was living in Fayetteville Township, Moore County, North Carolina. It appears that he had a good-sized family: 3 FWM<10, 2 FWM 10-15, 1 FWM 16-25, 1 FWP 26-44, 3 FWF<10, 1 FWF 10-15, 1 FWF 26-44, for a household of 12.[6] On the same page of the census are three other Autrey families, likely relatives of Elijah's.
This land transaction was found for Elijah Autrey:
40.3 Acres 20 Mar 1837 Sale-Cash Entries, Demopolis, (Marengo), AL "1 SWSE ST STEPHENS No 12N 4E 12"[7]
Elijah is reported to have died in Alabama, but we do not know the date of his death.[2][4] Since the Alabama land purchase is the last record found, we will list the death date as "after 1837."
Research Notes
This land transaction, issued in Elijah Autrey's name, was found:
63 Acres 17 Dec 1835 Grant #1401 Onslow County, NC, "Beg at a pine..."[8]
An 1840 census report[9] enumerates Elijah Autry, Onslow County, North Carolina. Both of these records probably belong to another person named Elijah Autrey, not the one in this profile.
