Biography

Beatrice Banning Ayer was the first child born, 12 Jan 1886, to Frederick Ayer and his second wife, Elizabeth Barrows Banning. She was Frederick Ayer's fifth child and second daughter. [1][2]

Her father was the younger brother of patent medicine tycoon Dr. James Cook Ayer, but Frederick was better known as a businessman in the textile industry. Because of her father's business success, Beatrice enjoyed a life of privilege and attended prestigious finishing schools. [3][4]

Beatrice first met George S. Patton, Jr. when they were children, and after dating while Patton attended West Point Military Academy, the couple were married on 26 May 1910. [5] They remained married for over 30 years. [3] [6]

Beatrice and George had 3 children: Beatrice Smith Patton, born March 1911, Ruth Ellen Patton, born February 1915, and George Smith Patton III, born December 1923.[7]

Beatrice died in 1953 in Wenham, Massachusetts, United States.[8]
