Beatrice Banning Ayer was the first child born, 12 Jan 1886, to Frederick Ayer and his second wife, Elizabeth Barrows Banning. She was Frederick Ayer's fifth child and second daughter. [1][2]
Her father was the younger brother of patent medicine tycoon Dr. James Cook Ayer, but Frederick was better known as a businessman in the textile industry. Because of her father's business success, Beatrice enjoyed a life of privilege and attended prestigious finishing schools.
[3][4]
Beatrice first met George S. Patton, Jr. when they were children, and after dating while Patton attended West Point Military Academy, the couple were married on 26 May 1910. [5] They remained married for over 30 years.
[3][6]
Beatrice and George had 3 children: Beatrice Smith Patton, born March 1911, Ruth Ellen Patton, born February 1915, and George Smith Patton III, born December 1923.[7]
Beatrice died in 1953 in Wenham, Massachusetts, United States.[8]
