Abagail's father was Nathaniel Ayling (1832-1919), born 1832 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England. His father George Ayling (1798-1868). His mother Mary Ayling (1772-1850) born in Cocking, West Sussex. George was born out of wedlock in Heyshott, West Sussex. His ancestry runs back to Thomas Ayling (1689-1759), likely born in Easebourne, and deceased in Cocking (buried at St. James in Stedham). Thomas' origins are not certain but his descendants match the YDNA signatures of other Aylings from the same area. His line probably runs back through Easebourne and merges with the Stedham group in the 1500s.
