John Backus was born on 9 February 1662 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut to William Backus Jr. (1634-1721) and Sarah Charles (1637-1663)

2. Lydia Backus was born on 15 January 1695. She married Thomas Dyer (1694-1766) on 24 October 1717 in Windham, Connecticut. Lydia died on 12 March 1751 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut.
3. John Backus, 1st of name in family, was born and died on 5 March 1697 according to CT Town Birth Records.
4. John Backus Jr. was born on 17 August 1698. He married Sybil Whiting (1708-1755) on 15 January 1725 in Windham County, Connecticut. John died on 17 June 1769 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut. CT Town Birth Records says he was born in January 1698, but everything else give August date.
5. Abigail Backus was born on 2 July 1701. She married Elijah Hurlburt of Windham (bef. 3 Nov 1696-1763) on 18 August 1725 in Windham, Connecticut.
6. Jerusha Backus was born on 29 September 1704. She married Daniel Stoughton (1699-1788) as his second wife on 20 October 1742 in Windham County, Connecticut. Jerusha died on 24 September 1744 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut.
7. Zerviah Backus was born on 10 August 1709. She married Rev. Hezekiah Lord (1698-1760) on 2 June 1738 in Scotland, Windham, Connecticut. Zerviah died on 15 November 1787 in Griswold, New London, Connecticut, USA.
8. Nathaniel Backus was born on 10 June 1712. He died on 15 August 1720 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut.
